The Gaúcha mountain ridge is part of the Southern plateau
and is inserted into the ecological agricultural
region of Rio Grande do Sul Northeast at 29º
South Latitude. It is a mountainous region marked
by the Antas River with altitudes ranging from
400 to 800 meters. Nevertheless, grape cultivation
is concentrated on altitudes from 400 to 600 meters.
Basalt is the mother-rock and soil is clayey-sandy.
The climate is temperate subtropical type, humid
mesothermal. The summer seasons are pleasant and
humid.
Several small agricultural properties are located
in this region and each vinegrower cultivates
a vineyard of about 2 hectares. Today, most of
the grapes produced in Rio Grande do Sul comes
from the mountains of Serra Gaúcha. |
