Miolo Wine Group World

The passion for the fascinating world of wine is easily explained by the history of the Miolo family. Their dedication to viticulture dates back to the arrival of Giuseppe Miolo in Brazil, in 1897, and they still manage to innovate year after year. A founding member of the Wines of Brasil project, Miolo Wine Group is the leading wine exporter in Brazil, highly recognized in the international market. Wine produced in the four group wineries amounts to an average of 10 million liters per year in a cultivated vineyard area of approximately 1,000 hectares.

“Our history began in 1989, and today we are very proud of what we have done so far. Miolo has been recognized and awarded internationally, and our products are shipped to more than 30 countries. This serves as a daily motivation to be always committed to delivering high-quality wines and sparkling wines worldwide."Adriano Miolo

Terranova Winery

This winery is located in Casa Nova, BA, in the region of Vale do São Francisco, considered a promising area for the production of fine wines in Brazil. Due to the semi-arid tropical climate with high sun exposure and low precipitation, these vineyards are irrigated by a drip system using the waters of the São Francisco River, allowing two annual harvests.

There are 200 hectares of vineyards in this unit, where 4 million liters are produced per year — 2 million liters of wines and sparkling wines, and 2 million liters for distillation. Terranova Winery makes sparkling wines, young wines, fruit wines, brandy and 100% grape juice.

GIUSEPPE MIOLO ARRIVES IN BRAZIL

The history of the Miolo family in Brazil began in 1897. Giuseppe Miolo was among the thousands of Italian immigrants who arrived here searching for opportunities. He was a young man with a passion for grape and wine, coming from Piombino Dese, a small town in Veneto.

Upon his arrival in Brazil, Giuseppe went to Bento Gonçalves, a southern town newly founded by Italian immigrants. He exchanged his savings for a land lot in Vale dos Vinhedos known as Lote 43.

A PIONEER IN PLANTING GRAPEVINES

In that same year, Giuseppe started planting grapes, thus initiating the family’s grape-growing tradition in Brazil.

In the 1970s, the family pioneered the cultivation of fine grapes, making Darcy, Antônio and Paulo Miolo, Giuseppe’s grandchildren, well known in the region for the quality of their grapes.

MIOLO WINERY IS OPENED

In the late 1980s, an economic crisis made fine grapes difficult to sell and forced the Miolo family, as of 1989, to produce their own wine to be sold in bulk to other wineries.

With 30 hectares of vineyards, Miolo Winery was then opened.
